Juvenile Practice
The Juvenile Division of the Champaign County Prosecutor’s Office assists law enforcement in the determination of charges and the prosecution of juveniles for all criminal offenses. The Prosecuting Attorney is charged with the duty to prosecute on behalf of the state all juvenile (persons under the age of 18 years) offenders before the Champaign County Juvenile Court, for both felony and misdemeanor violations of state law. In addition, the Juvenile Division can prosecute adults for misdemeanor level offenses with a child victim and has the duty to prosecute adults for contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a minor.
The Juvenile Division further provides representation to the Champaign County Department of Job and Family Services in all child protection and child welfare matters with the goal of protecting children who are at risk of, or have suffered from abuse or neglect. We represent the county in court to protect at risk children as well as the at-risk elderly.
